Graphical user interfaces are software components that allow human-computer interaction (HCI). Adaptive characteristics for increased flexibility are essential for their effectiveness and usability, because context, tasks, environment as well as user attributes may change.

The Agent-Based e-Learning (ABEL) GUI approach was developed by Dr. Steffen Mencke (see Steffen Mencke: Proactive Ontology-Based Content Provision in the Context of e-Learning, PhD, University of Magdeburg, 2008). The essential steps for ABEL GUI development are described in the following figure.
