The Problem Definition Measurement tool (PDM) was implemented by Erik Foltin. This tool intends any problem definitions that are user over the project duration and can/should be used and changed during the software development process. Problem definitions includes domain notions and terms, names and identifiers, dates and relations between the problem descriptions. The PDM measurement should supports the quality evaluation of a problem description based on criteria shown in the following figure.

pdm01

In order to achiev these evaluations, any metrics are counted by the PDM such as the following. Note, that our problem definition was a HTML text.

pdm02

The metrics are size measures (σμ: length of titles and headlines, length of words end sentences, number of words, lists, data, names and notions etc.) and structure measures (θμ: average number of words in a list, number of delimiters, list elements and (hyper) links etc.).

This tool was used during the first SML@b implementation in the 90's.
