The Higher Order Software (HOS) approach was created by Hamilton and Zeldin 1976 and supports functional/component based software development by (formal) correct constructing using the following three kinds of functions.

The measurement aspect is implicitely: as measured/estimated (formal) program correctness of  function integration to whole software systems. An example implemented in Turbo Pascal shows the following figure. The HOS generator was implemented by Dumke 1987 and any application are implemented as Software-Werkzeugkasten 1988 by Heike Hegewald, Anja Seibt, Heike Klinder, Michael Knochenmuß, Ute Kroschwitz, Elke Müller, Mirko Radtke, Katrin Zerbe, Elke Brauns, Jens Kapischka und Babett Meyer.

This approach was also used in general macro generators like MACROPLUS shown a part of the HOS structure as following implemented 1988 in our software engineering group.

Note, that the HOS approach is one of the essential basis of the (classical) feature driven approach (FDD) as further CBSE technology. But, the FDD don't use the formal background of HOS and has no essential basics of quality assurance.
