The Smalltalk Measurement Extension (STME) was implemented in a diploma thesis by Ronald Heckendorf (Heckendorff: Konzeption und Implementation einer qualitätsbasierten Softwareentwicklung im VisualWorks-Smalltalk, University of Magdeburg, 1997). The metrics are implemented in the Smalltalk system itself. Because of the object-based characteristic of Smalltalk, the measurement value are available continual. The measurement of the whole Smalltalk system shows the following screen.

The measurement extension of the class menu with "LOC" and "number of methods" is given in the next screen as following.

A simple implementation of the McCabe measurement shows the following Smalltalk source code in a simplified manner.

As support for the quality evaluation, the STME approach contents any (textual) remarks in the case of threshold overrunning and gives any informations about (development) quality improvement of the Smalltalk application.
